The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Many communities make zongzi and watch dragon boats. Leaves wrap rice and different fillings, tied with string. Some people prefer sweet versions and others savoury ones; family recipes differ.
On the river, long dragon boats move forward. A drummer sets a beat, and paddlers put their paddles into the water together. One person paddling fastest is not enough; mismatched strokes can make steady movement harder.
Many people connect the festival with stories of Qu Yuan, while some places remember other figures. One festival can hold different stories and customs. Ask friends what their families do and what they enjoy before sharing your own experience.

The date, dragon boats and varied commemorative traditions are checked against UNESCO’s heritage description. No single legend is presented as the one certain origin. Look for words of cooperation in the boat paragraph.
